A 37-year-old man from La Coruña died on Sunday afternoon from smoke inhalation when a fire broke out in the house where he lived.

Around 5:00 p.m. a call alerted the Coordinating Center for Emergencies and Security (CECOES) 1-1-2 reporting smoke coming from a house located on the second floor of a building located on Aniagua Street in Arrecife.

1-1-2 immediately activated the necessary emergency resources, so personnel from the Security, Emergencies, Rescue, Prevention and Extinction of Fires Consortium of the island of Lanzarote accessed the house and found a man unconscious inside. Next, after rescuing the affected person, they extinguished the flames and ventilated the property.

Initially, the firefighters performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation tasks and later, when the health personnel of the Canary Emergency Service arrived, they assisted the affected person and, after verifying that he was in cardiorespiratory arrest, performed basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers that were resumed, in its advanced stage, by the SUC medical personnel without obtaining results, which confirmed his death.

The Local Police regulated traffic in the area and facilitated access to the scene of the incident for the different emergency resources.

The National Police Corps was in charge of the custody of the deceased until the arrival of the judicial authority and instructed the corresponding proceedings.

Civil Protection collaborated with the rest of the emergency resources.
