The Civil Guard of the Costa Teguise and San Bartolomé posts have arrested a total of 11 people for robberies inside vehicles in different parts of the island. On the one hand, 7 people have been arrested in connection with robberies in cars parked on the beaches of Caletón Blanco and Famara and, on the other hand, another 4 for robberies in the area of the Tinajo volcanoes. Two of the detainees are of foreign nationality and the rest are Spanish. In total, the detainees would be related to 13 alleged crimes of robbery with force inside vehicles and another two crimes of "receiving", when acquiring part of the stolen objects.
Between November 4 and 9, agents arrested seven people related to the robberies in Famara and Caletón Blanco. Of those 7 detainees, two people, both of foreign nationality, were arrested for receiving stolen goods.
The investigation began as a result of a series of robberies that were being committed, since October, in those unguarded parking areas. There, the alleged perpetrators, after breaking the windows of the vehicles with some blunt object, preferably rental vehicles, accessed the different belongings that were inside them, explains the Benemérita in a statement.
The investigations allowed the Civil Guard to obtain a series of indications that helped the agents to find out the identity of the alleged perpetrators of the robberies. Thus, between the 4th and 9th, five people with police records "related to heritage" were arrested. Thanks to these arrests, part of the stolen goods could be recovered, specifically a camera and two telephoto lenses, which have already been returned to their owners. At the same time, also during those days, the agents arrested two other people for two crimes of receiving stolen goods, since they allegedly had acquired part of the stolen objects.
Arrests in San Bartolomé
On the other hand, the agents of the Investigation Area of the San Bartolomé Post arrested between the 5th and 9th of this month another four people of Spanish nationality, all of them with "police records for similar crimes", the Civil Guard emphasizes. They are the alleged perpetrators of ten crimes of robbery with force inside vehicles.
The events date back to the past months of September and October, when the perpetrators of the robberies traveled to the parking area of the Tinajo volcanoes, "taking advantage of the fact that numerous tourists come to carry out different hiking routes that start from the place."
The Civil Guard, "given the considerable increase in robberies in the area", decided to set up an operation to eradicate these crimes. Thanks to several indications, the agents arrested these four people and were able to recover part of what was stolen, such as a Go-Pro camera and other accessories, the value of which is estimated at more than 4,000 euros.
The Benemérita also emphasizes that new arrests are not ruled out in this last case, since the alleged perpetrators "acted as a perfectly organized group to achieve their criminal purposes".
