Faithful to religious tradition, the people of Yaiza were able to celebrate in person again, without the restrictions of the pandemic, the religious function and the procession of veneration to their Holy Patroness, the Virgin of Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios, and they did so with all the solemnity and devotion that this holiday deserves, so awaited by faithful, companions and authorities, civil and military, who participated in the mass in the church and then in the pilgrimage with the figure of the Virgin through the streets of the welcoming southern town.
The celebration of the Eucharist was adorned by the voices of the Yaiza Vocal Group, the crier choir of this year's festivities, while the Yaiza Municipal Band was in charge of leading the procession through the upper area of Yaiza, on the usual route of the parade.
The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, the president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo, and the island director of the General State Administration in Lanzarote, Juan Ramón Pérez, exercised the highest representation of the public institutions of the Island, alongside councilors of the Yaiza Corporation and councilors of the Island Council.
The parish priest of Yaiza, Jonathan Almeida, invited the parishioners to pray for life and to consider in all its dimension the figure of the mother represented in the Virgin of Los Remedios. The school year begins and also the pastoral year, so the celebration of the Great Day of the town is a reason for joy for the Christian community that once again celebrated by externalizing its devotion to the Virgin of Los Remedios.
The Councilor for Festivities of Yaiza, Javier Camacho, makes a positive assessment of Remedios "for the high participation in religious, folkloric, cultural and purely festive events, for the behavior of the public, for the integration of our neighbors with people from other municipalities, for the involvement of the festival committee in the organization of the program and for the great work of the municipal staff, volunteers, and security and emergency forces. We make public our respect and gratitude," he added.
