The Castillo del Águila Cultural Association revealed this Sunday the names of the winners of the eighth edition of the Playa Blanca Short Story Contest, during the awards ceremony held at the Municipal Library of the town. The event was attended by Daniel Medina, Councilor for Culture of the Yaiza City Council, the sponsoring institution of this literary promotion contest.
Due to the security measures required by health authorities to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and in order to control capacity, the event was held in the outdoor patio of the library and without an audience, summoning only the three finalists in each category.
Laura De la Cruz with 'The Hunt', in adults; Cristina Alisedo with 'The Day of the White Hare', in youth; Ada Diez with 'History of Ryu', in children's; and Tatiana Cabezas with 'I am the Wind', in micro-stories, were proclaimed winners of this eighth edition, which has distributed almost 2,000 euros in prizes.

In the adult and youth categories, the first prize was 400 and 250 euros, respectively, and 200 euros for children and micro-stories. Both the winners and all the finalists in the four categories received cash prizes in addition to a book donated by the Osidinami, Diama or Fajardo bookstores, collaborators of the contest.
An edition "with a woman's name"
The City Council emphasizes that "this edition will undoubtedly be remembered for the impossibility of celebrating it as it deserves, but also for being written with a woman's name." And it is that, in addition to being all winners, among the more than ten finalists there was only one man, the resident of Playa Blanca Pedro Alisedo, a regular in the contest who always gets some recognition from the jury.
Among the well-known faces of the contest this year were also his daughter, Cristina Alisedo, who took the first prize in youth; Graciela Rodiño, also a resident of Playa Blanca, who won the third prize in adults; and the very young Daniela Arrocha, who is already getting used to being among the finalists and who on this occasion was doubly awarded with the third place in children and in micro-stories, the latter modality that does not distinguish by age and that this year was dedicated to César Manrique on the occasion of the centenary of his birth.
The Castillo del Águila Cultural Association and the Yaiza City Council congratulate the winners, finalists and participants in general, encouraging them to continue developing their creativity and sharing it through contests or other types of literary activities, while publicly thanking the selfless work of the members of the jury and the collaboration of the Osidinami, Fajardo and Diama bookstores.
