The Rubicón folklore group gave a Christmas concert at the Casa Benito Pérez Armas in Yaiza. "An hour full of rhythm and Christmas classics, whose repertoire was presented by Santa Claus himself through several audios sent to the organization," they point out from the Town Hall of the town.

"Adults and children were absorbed as soon as the performance began when the sound of bells announced the arrival of someone important. The magic of Christmas settled in the Southern House of Culture when listening to him and feeling him accompanying us throughout the recital and that is that, through the aforementioned audios, Santa Claus acted as master of ceremonies giving way to each song performed by thirty fabulous voices of the A.F. Rubicón accompanied masterfully by seven exceptional musicians, some of whom have also become regulars at this Christmas event", explain from the Council.

Directed by Roberto Gil (electric guitar), Adrian Niz (guitar), Omar Pérez (bass), Miguel Ángel Cabrera (keyboard), David Pastoriza (drums), Andrés Suarez (Latin percussion) and Abraham Caraballo (percussion) were in charge of setting the rhythm to classic Canarian Christmas songs such as "Vamos a escuchar al viento" but also to others such as "Vuela una lágrima" by Alberto Plaza or the fun "Me gusta la Navidad", a song by Tutto Durán but versioned with lyrics by the guest pianist Miguel Ángel Cabrera.

Also in the repertoire was "All I want is you", a song that summarizes everything that Christmas means, the always exciting "Hallelujah" or its apotheosic and rocker ending with its Christmas version of "Highway to Hell" by the mythical band AC/DC.

"The farewell of this festive and magical concert arrived and Santa Claus did it by citing by name many of the children attending, reminding them that they must behave well since he will visit them very soon in their homes, and wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a prosperous new year", they point out from the Town Hall.

After a warm ovation to this "Singing at Christmas 2022", the group wanted to congratulate one of its members who was celebrating his birthday, Leandro Gutiérrez, singing him a happy birthday to which the entire room joined, before entertaining the public with their acclaimed encore performing again "Vuela una lágrima".

Performance of the Guadarfía folklore group

Previously, on Thursday night, the Plaza del Carmen in Playa Blanca hosted the performance of another well-known island folklore group, the batatera Guadarfía, which gave a delightful evening to the southern public beginning with a mazurka and interspersing in its repertoire carols with usual themes of Canarian folklore, in which it was accompanied by its dance troupe.

There was no shortage of a seguidilla, a folía, an isa and a sorondongo, very applauded by foreigners who were mesmerized recording videos with their phones of this performance that is part of the Isleña Christmas program, with which the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the town halls of the island seek to promote music and traditional culture taking it to all corners of Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
