The residents of the town of Tao celebrated the festival of Santa Rita de Cascia early in the morning this past Wednesday. As tradition dictates, the doors of the church were opened because many devotees visit the Saint on this day, some come to thank her and others also to tell her their problems.

In addition, many grandmothers arrived accompanied by their own grandchildren to fulfill their promises, a tradition that is passed down from generation to generation and that continues to be in force today.

At 7:00 p.m., the Eucharist began, presided over by Francisco José García, parish priest of the parishes of San Bartolomé and Tinajo, with the permitted capacity full. Some stayed at the doors of the church to follow the celebration.

In the Homily, the parish priest shared a brief review of the life of Santa Rita de Cascia, a woman born to elderly parents who at the age of 14 was married to a man with whom her life became a sea of suffering, they had two twin sons who died very young. Once a widow, she requested admission to the monastery of the Augustinians of Santa María Magdalena in Cascia.

After the Eucharist, the procession took place through the streets of the town accompanied by the residents, the priest and the municipal authorities. Once the procession was concluded, inside the church the Villa de Teguise Polyphonic Choir directed by Professor Nuvi Tavio offered a concert choosing a selection of compositions by great musicians such as; Vaughan Williams, J. Busto, Bepi De Marzi among others, songs that were highly applauded by the public. The festive day ended with an Enyesque served at the Socio-Cultural Center "El Fomento de Tao".
