On Saturday morning, the international tenor Jorge de León, born in Tenerife, but with roots in San Bartolomé (grandson of Pedro de León Corujo, soloist and undisputed singer of the Antigua Ajei, and great-nephew of Marcial de León Corujo "Lero", one of the most important dancers the municipality and the Canary Islands has produced), was strolling through San Bartolomé with Ciro Corujo, one of the greatest voices in regional folklore. Without having planned it, he visited the Teatro de San Bartolomé with the mayor, Alexis Tejera, and the Councilor for Culture, Isidro Pérez. Taking advantage of the fortuitous meeting, the councilors asked him for his opinion on possible improvements, given the renovation works planned for the Theater, sharing opinions on how he sees the opening of the venues in the face of the crisis generated by Covid-19 and the near future of cultural, festive and recreational agendas.
Jorge de León is an affable and approachable man, who always seeks out the party with great roots and authenticity and who maintains a close link with the municipality and the island. He has a prodigious voice that has led him to obtain the 2016 Lyric Oscar, and recognition as Best Tenor of the Year within the International Opera Awards "Stella della Lirica" 2016, having been a candidate alongside other greats such as Juan Diego Flórez and John Osborn. Among the many recognitions he has, he has the Distinction of Favorite Son of La Laguna.

The mayor expressed his concern for the reactivation of all the cultural movement of the municipality with maximum security and his pride for his presence and stay in the municipality. Jorge de León, had the detail of approaching to visit the sculpture in homage to the folklore and more specifically to the dance, located in San Bartolomé next to the Local Police. Once his stay on the island is over and he can fly, he will travel to Milan where they are eagerly awaiting his presence at La Scala.
Jorge de León has always had the municipality in his mind, filming a report on his musical career in the Casa Ajei, which a well-known advertising producer has broadcast in the USA.
"He has clear his roots in the municipality and without a doubt in La Laguna". "It is a pride to have great artists who feel passion for what they do, who are among the greats and who feel that respect for traditions and show their roots with great pride wherever they go. A pleasure to have shared this pleasant meeting", highlights Tejera.
