The poster of the eleventh Lanzarote Film Festival reflects "the personality of the wind on the island, which has decisively shaped its landscape, its customs and its history." It is a design in which, from the organization point out, the strength and unpredictability of this natural phenomenon "are made visible".
“If in 2018 it was the volcano, in 2019 the salt and last year the overcoming of the crises, this 2021 the edition will be dedicated to the wind. The poster reflects through unexpected shapes that blow from different directions. A reflection of the winds of Lanzarote, which have been fundamental in building the uniqueness of this island”, said the director of the Festival since 2018, Javier Fuentes Feo.
In addition, he added that “this does not only happen in Lanzarote; the wind is a phenomenon that has marked the cycles of our planet and, therefore, of the people who inhabit it, of their ways of living, of looking at the world, of thinking and acting. For this reason, it has also played an important role in the history of cinema.”
The 11th Lanzarote Film Festival will maintain, as in previous years, “different sections and activities”. From the organization they detail that many of them “will take place in the CIC El Almacén and others will be in open spaces, outside the cinemas, such as workshops, the famous walks or various talks with international experts about the influence of the wind on humanity”.
The organization also adds that one of the novelties of this year “is the increase in the endowment for the winning film and the best Canarian short”. In this edition, the Official Feature Film Competition Section has a prize of 2,500 euros. In addition, in order to continue supporting cinematographic creation in the Canary Islands, “the Crossroads section: Canarian filmmakers, which had an economic prize last year for the first time, will be awarded with 600 euros”.
The Lanzarote Film Festival is organized by the Tenique Cultural Association, a non-profit organization. This edition is sponsored by the Cabildo de Lanzarote, through its Culture Area, Promotur Turismo Canarias, the Canarian Institute of Cultural Development and the Government of the Canary Islands.
