The Havana String Quartet was the first musical group to participate in the thirty-third International Music Festival of the Canary Islands. On Sunday night, the Municipal Theater of Tías hosted the performance of the four musicians. The Quartet offered a select repertoire of masterpieces by composers such as Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959), Juan Manuel Ruiz (1968), Leo Brouwer (1939) and Alberto Ginastera (1916-1983). All of these compositions are adapted for groups such as the Havana String Quartet, created in Cuba in 1980.
In its format it incorporates two violinists, a viola and a cellist. The Quartet has been integrated into the Orchestra of Córdoba (Spain) since 1992, its main base being Latin American and international chamber music. They also usually include other genres with versions of popular music such as Latin jazz, flamenco and popular Cuban music.
The Havana String Quartet has important recognitions to its credit such as the Award for the Best Chamber Music Recording at the Cubadisco Festival, Latin Grammy 2010 for Best Classical Music Album, as well as the award for Interpretive Mastery at the Havana Chamber Music Festival.
The audience attending the concert held at the Municipal Theater of Tías was able to enjoy, for more than 90 minutes, a concert in which the high musical quality of its components was always at a great height, as well as its staging. All of this was highly applauded.
