The Santo Domingo convent hosted the concert of 'Fado a Verdade: A Tribute to Fado' last Friday night.

The solo voice, Beatriz Alonso, captivated the audience with her velvety voice in some of the songs with melancholic, nostalgic and also sweet tones, who was supported by her colleagues throughout the concert. The Culture Councilor of the Teguise City Council, Francisco Javier Díaz, presented him with the advertising poster as a souvenir.

With a first album released 'Outro Fado', this band, unique in all the Canary Islands, which arouses passions with its exquisite repertoire, sound and staging, has been seizing the public in a great emotion in scenarios or festivals such as: the Casa de Colón, the Timanfaya Theater or the Alternative Music Festival of the Canary Islands.

'El Fado', musical expression of the soul of Lisbon, reveals the great cultural link that Portugal had, in a not so distant past, with the Canary Islands and the influence it left on the Archipelago, a mark that goes far beyond music.

The members of 'Fado A Verdade', who have extensive experience in the fusion of different folklore (from Brazilian, Canarian and Afro-Latin American music) through jazz and World Music, defend, on this occasion, the genre from a more classic and traditional point of view.

Songs from the rich musical repertoire and interpretation defined by the Schools of Lisbon and Coimbra, by the old and new vision of fado, which are taken to the voice of Beatriz Alonso and brought to islands whose traditional music is forged with aromas, among others, Portuguese, as can be seen in the Aires de Lima de Canarias.

The word fado comes from the Latin 'fatum', which means 'destiny'. Fado A Verdade accepts as destiny the constant "eternal return". Once again, the Music of "round trip", inspires the Canarian artist in his inventiveness. This creation is still a reflection of the idiosyncrasy of a people as well as their cultural supply and demand.

The band 'Fado a Verdade, owes its name to the mythical palmero sailboat 'La Verdad', launched in La Palma in 1873 and whose bell is preserved in the Naval Museum of La Palma.
