The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, also a member of the Board of the Las Palmas Port Authority, has announced that the capital of Lanzarote will be a base port for MSC Cruises from this autumn until 2027.

For her part, the Councilor for Tourism and Commerce, Eli Merino, has announced that other shipping companies, including Aida, "have repositioned their initial winter cruises in the Persian Gulf area to the Canary Islands in view of the situations that are being experienced in those countries due to the war tensions in Iran."

Merino has also explained that new businesses are opening in the Arrecife Open Commercial Zone, focused on cruise tourism, which "is acting as an economic engine for the small business, hospitality, excursions and transport, and leisure sectors."

The cruise pre-season began in Arrecife last Sunday, July 27, with the call of the British cruise ship Ventura.

This great ocean liner, on its way to the south of England, disembarked some 3,000 passengers in the capital of Lanzarote, mostly English tourists who are taking a 14-day trip through ports in the Canary Islands, Portugal and the Iberian Peninsula. The trip, which started on July 19, will end on August 2 in Southampton.

During the first semester, Arrecife has received 347,530 cruise passengers, with an increase of 18.2%. The mayor points out that "this second semester of the year will be very good", according to the forecasts handled by the Las Palmas Port Authority, to which will be added that for the first time Arrecife will be a base port.
