Once the registration period for films in the competition categories of the 14th Lanzarote Film Festival has ended, the figures show an increasing interest in this international project. The Tenique Cultural association, organizer of the prestigious film event, has received more than 200 feature films and 60 short films that aspire to be part of the titles of each of the sections.

Of the total, the former correspond to the official section, while the short films correspond to Cruce de Caminos: Filmmakers from the Canary Islands.

According to its president and project director, Javier Fuentes Feo, this is a historical figure, "which gives an idea of the growth of film production in the Canary Islands and the rest of the world, and of the consolidation of the Lanzarote Film Festival as a benchmark of quality in the international film scene. Every year more and more short and feature films are registered in the project." He adds: "The direct arrival of so many important titles from different parts of the world will allow us to make a unique program for the island's public."

From all over the world

The diverse and multicultural origin of the titles received is particularly striking, given that works have arrived from Burkina Faso, Croatia, Bosnia, Ukraine, Georgia, Togo, India, Italy, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Dominican Republic, United Kingdom, Taiwan, Uruguay or Vietnam, among others.

The convening power of the Cruce de Caminos section: Filmmakers from the Canary Islands, whose purpose is to promote and encourage film creation in the islands, is another source of pride for the Film Festival team. "The defense of cinema made in the Canary Islands has been one of the project's great bets since its origin in 2011; it is very gratifying that filmmakers who are now great references in the world of international cinema have passed through Lanzarote."

The awards will be chosen by a jury of three prestigious professionals in the field of culture. As in previous editions since 2018, these people will deliberate again in public in the Buñuel room of El Almacén, something that adds a particular attraction to this film festival and that does not occur in any other festival in the world.

The Lanzarote Film Festival has the collaboration of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, the Centers of Art, Culture and Tourism, the Society for the Promotion of Foreign Affairs of Lanzarote through its product brand Lanzarote Film Commission and the sponsorship of the Canary Islands Institute of Cultural Development (ICDC), the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts of Spain (ICAA), the Government of Spain through the Ministry of Industry and Tourism, the Government of the Canary Islands, Canary Islands Latitude of Life and the European Union, through the Next Generation EU initiative and the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
