Teseguite hosts the 'VII Folk Festival - Reviews of a Capital'

Last Saturday, the Cultural Association of Typical Dances Altaja celebrated with great success the 'VII Folk Festival - Reviews of a Capital' in the square at the soco of the hermitage of San Leandro, in the town of Teseguite. This event is part of the festivities in honor of Our Lady of the Rosary.

The night began with airs of malagueña and an emotional couplet performed by Almudena Hernández, who also led the festival. After this opening, the participating folk groups were presented: Tuhoco from La Palma, Altaja and Parranda de Teseguite from Lanzarote.

The groups offered a show full of animation and joy, interspersing their songs and dances in an entertaining way, which was greatly appreciated by the audience.

The Tuhoco Association, from the Velhoco neighborhood in Santa Cruz de La Palma and formed in 1983, stood out for its exquisite care in the making of its traditional costumes, which include work clothes, gala and mantle and saya. Tuhoco has taken the name of "La Isla Bonita” throughout the Canary Archipelago, the Peninsula, Germany and Italy, and has two record works: “Canto a La Palma” and “Mi Barrio”.

The Cultural Association of Typical Dances Altaja, was created in 2013 with the main objective of rescuing, disseminating and promoting the folklore of Lanzarote from all its aspects, covering the different styles framed in the Canary Islands. Altaja is formed by women and men from all over the island of Lanzarote, connoisseurs of traditions and express it as best they can with their songs and dances, a legacy inherited from our elders.

Altaja was accompanied in the musical part with the Parranda El Lagar de Teseguite. The parranda was created in 2003 with the aim of consolidating a formation that would represent the town of Teseguite in different scenarios and to liven up parties in nearby towns. Most of the members are players and singers from Teseguite who performed in the old way and who had been partying all their lives. Altaja and the Parranda El Lagar de Tesguite in their performance made a tour with their songs and dances throughout the Canary Islands. During the festival, videos were shown with images and texts alluding to Teguise, highlighting the history and heritage of what was the first capital of Lanzarote.

Despite the cold prevailing in the night, the public remained until the end of the festival sheltering the participating groups. Tuhoco de La Palma, Altaja and Parranda El Lagar de Teseguite.
