The Heritage Area of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has launched boat design workshops taught by the last active shipwright on the island, Agustín Jordán. These workshops, which are being held these days, are taught at Calle Fajardo number 5 in Arrecife.

In addition to the workshops, which are designed to provide an educational and practical experience, bringing participants closer to one of the most important traditions of our islands, guided tours have been organized for Saturdays, June 15, 22 and 29, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., which will allow attendees to learn firsthand about the work and dedication involved in this craft.

Participants in these guided tours will be able to learn firsthand about the characteristics of the collection of model ships in the exhibition Sailing through Memory by Marcial Cabrera Reyes.

The Councilor of the Heritage Area, Ascensión Toledo, highlights the importance of these workshops and visits. "The trade of shipwright has great value in Canarian culture and these types of initiatives are essential to preserve and transmit this knowledge to new generations," she adds.

Finally, to participate in the visits it is necessary to register in advance by calling 622081247 or sending an email to [email protected].
