The San Bartolomé City Council presented this Wednesday, October 26, the IX Community Health Week, which will take place from November 4 to 9. This year's event features "intergenerational coexistence from a pedagogical approach and with emotional management versus mental health as main themes," the council says.

The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, stressed that the Community Health Week project represents "an impulse to facilitate actions from a community health perspective and recognition as a socially healthy municipality" and highlighted the collaboration of the numerous associations, administrations and educational centers involved in this new commitment to "social" in the municipality.

Likewise, the mayor took the opportunity to "highlight the celebration in San Bartolomé" as the venue for the IV Regional Meeting of Islands and municipalities promoting health, "highlighting the work carried out by the City Council as a municipality promoting health" and thanked the "more than deserved tribute" that will be given to Alexis Tejera within the framework of these conferences.

The presentation ceremony was attended by the mayor of San Bartolomé and president of the Social Welfare Commission of the FECAM, Isidro Pérez, the Councilor for Community Intervention of the San Bartolomé City Council, Ana María Lopes, and the members of the 'Healthy Walks' program, among others," the city council said.

The consistory is in charge of organizing this Health Week, in collaboration with the Cabildo de Lanzarote, the ‘la Caixa’ Foundation and the TribArte Cultural and Social Association, and will consist, one more year, of a community action that "seeks to generate synergies and value the prevention and promotion of health as dynamizing elements of the community." This IX edition is "built with and from the resources of education, health and social welfare and has more than 30 groups and institutions that participate in the preparation and development of the conferences," they point out.

Among all the activities that will be carried out, "the Health Assets Fair on November 11 stands out." From 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., the Plaza Santa Elena in Playa Honda will offer citizens stands, activities, exhibitions and performances, among many other surprises.

In the context of this program, "all the educational centers of the municipality will participate", which will consist of "appointments between generations", initiatives related to physical activity, traditional games and awareness-raising actions.

IV Regional Meeting ‘Islands and municipalities promoting health’

The IV Regional Meeting ‘Islands and municipalities promoting health’ will take place within the framework of the "Health Week organized by the City Council". This is an "initiative of the San Bartolomé City Council, the Government of the Canary Islands, together with the Cabildo de Lanzarote, the Canarian Federation of Islands (FECAI) and the Canarian Federation of Municipalities (FECAM)", the consistory points out.

Under the slogan ‘For healthy aging’, more than twenty experts and authorities related to the field of health, geriatrics or psychology will meet during the days 10 and 11 November at the Teatro de San Bartolomé and in the Plaza Santa Elena in Playa Honda.

"The experts will debate and discuss issues related to the bioethics of aging, ethics, functional diversity, healthy aging or physical activity in older people, among other issues," they emphasize. These aspects will be the main themes of several round tables, conferences and presentations that will be distributed during the two days of the meeting.

On the other hand, "on November 10, starting at 10:00 a.m., the Farmer's Monument will witness the III Plenary of the Canarian Network of Islands and Municipalities Promoting Health and the subsequent tribute that will be paid to Alexis Tejera, in which the gánigo of the Strategy will be given posthumously to the family of the deceased former mayor", conclude from the City Council of San Bartolomé.
