Las pateadas, a classic of the Lanzarote Film Festival's program since 2018, will direct its steps in this 14th edition to the coastline of Lanzarote, in line with the subject of reflection chosen for this year, insularity and its vast imaginary. The conception of island territories as spaces that necessarily integrate their water limits, has led the organizing association Tenique Cultural to look towards the coasts and focus most of its walks on the tide and neighboring islands.
One of the biggest attractions of this activity is the accompaniment and interpretation of the routes by some of the most scientifically and academically advanced people in the fields of Biology, Heritage or Island Culture, depending on the approach of each walk. Attendance is free but requires prior registration on the web of the Lanzarote Film Festival until full capacity is reached.
The program will open on November 23 and 24, starting at 10:00 a.m., with two walks on the Isla de Lobos, lasting seven hours, departing from Puerto del Carmen. The activity begins with a navigation to the islet of Majorera, where sections of excursion and talks on biodiversity, history, archeology and ways of life will alternate. The total journey will be eight kilometers.
The tour will be accompanied by experts in Archeology, Biodiversity and Geodiversity, such as the archeologist and doctor in Prehistory, Nona Perera, the botanist and doctor in Biology, Alfredo Reyes, and Tinín Martínez, school teacher and director of the Dunas de Corralejo folklore group.
The same ambition to delve into the marine limits that construct the reality of the islands leads the snorkel proposals for November 30 and December 1 on the coast of Tías. The activity will begin at 8:30 a.m. with an introductory talk at the El Fondeadero Civic Center on the geodiversity and biodiversity of Lanzarote and the screening of a film about its geological depths. Afterwards, the technical details of the immersion will be explained, which will last approximately 45 minutes and will culminate with a collective analysis of what was found.
On this occasion, Maite Asensio, a graduate in Marine Sciences and environmental educator, and Javier Alonso, a graduate in Chemistry and senior technician in Plastic Arts, will guide the day.
Also on December 1, the departure to the Chinijo Archipelago will take place, starting at 09:00 hours. The event will begin at the teleclub of Órzola with a talk about the geodiversity of the Archipelago, prior to boarding for Alegranza, where, if possible, the participants will visit the lighthouse, attend a talk on environmental content and, back on the boat, tour the islets of Chinijo until disembarking in Pedro Barba, where they will talk about life in La Graciosa. In case it is not possible to disembark in Alegranza due to maritime issues, an alternative plan will be carried out, with an interpreted walk from Pedro Barba to Caleta de Sebo.
Specialist professionals in biodiversity and life on this island will interpret, such as geologist Olaya García Pérez, doctor in Biology Laura Gangoso, or Ricardo Socas and Ginés Díaz Pallarés, inhabitants of Chinijo.
The routes will be coordinated by Carmen Portella, founder of the NGO Vientos del Noreste and head of the company Eco-Insider, a benchmark for nature tourism and awareness of the environment. She organizes excursions for small groups in order to minimize the environmental impact and offer quality information and attention.
