As part of the festivities in honor of Our Lady of the Rosary, the La Oliva Folk Group of Fuerteventura celebrated the "XXVI Esteban Ramírez Folk Festival" last Friday night in the church square.
The event began with the participation of the Pedro de Hautacuperche Folk Group from La Gomera, founded in 1992 with the aim of ensuring the survival of the typical dances and songs of the island of Columbus. Currently, it is made up of 32 members, men and women, who took to the stage performing the most traditional of their songs and dances such as the Baile de Tambor, Folías Cuadradas and Polca de La Gomera.
Next, the 45 members of the Atabara Folk Group of Tenerife took to the stage, created in 1999 and currently chaired by José Antonio Hernández. Their repertoire included the most representative of the island of Tenerife such as Folías, Seguidillas and Saltonas, Malagueña and Polca.
The third place was for the Alfaguara Folk Group from the municipality of Breña Baja on the island of La Palma. A group that was founded in 2001, performing for the first time on the occasion of the festivities of Santiago Apóstol and Santa Ana. Currently, it has 40 members, men and women, very excited to represent the most traditional of their songs and dances. It is chaired by Sonia Delgado and they performed Siote Palmero, La danza del trigo and la Berlina de Tijarafe.
Finally, the organizers and hosts of the festival, the La Oliva Folk Group, created in 1970 and chaired by Esteban Ramírez Suárez, the only founding member who is still active (54 years) playing the timple and solo voice, closed the night. The Group has an extensive curriculum of intense trajectory full of numerous performances in regional festivals, countless folk meetings where their valuable work will be recorded forever in the audiovisual archive of Fuerteventura and the Canary Islands.
For such a special night, they began their performance with Fulgida Luna, Folías, Seguidillas and Saltonas, Berlina Majorera ending with an Isa Parrandera that included the participation of all the groups that participated in the festival.
The attending public rewarded each of the participating families with their applause. The night culminated with the presentation of gifts and a fraternal meal. Belinda Ramírez, a member of the La Oliva Folk Group, thanked all the official bodies, individuals and the public for the support received one more year and thus being able to carry out the festival.
