This year the call for the XIII edition of the Radio Lanzarote Summer 2023 Micro-story contest pays tribute to the Canarian writer Alexis Ravelo, who died on January 30. Once again, the Tourist Centers collaborate with the contest, which opens on Saturday, July 1, 2023 until August 31, both inclusive.
On this occasion, participants must submit a micro-story that should not exceed 100 words, among which the introductory text that we will provide below does not count.
Also, all the stories will have the same title: "A character loses his author" and the same beginning: "Eladio Monroy entered, as almost always, at twelve, in the Casablanca bar. He ordered a cortado and sat down to read the newspaper. On the cover was the news: The writer Alexis Ravelo has died at the age of 51..."
From this beginning, participants must imagine the reaction of Eladio Monroy, protagonist of the six novels in the series dedicated to the adventures of this character, upon learning of the death of his creator.
Each author may submit a maximum of five stories, which may be signed with a pseudonym, although a name and contact telephone number must always be indicated. Also, the stories will be sent to the address: concursorelatos@lanzarotemedia.net.
As they are received, the texts will be read in the space Reading on the Radio, and will be published in La Voz de Lanzarote. Both the reading and the publication will be subject to the availability of time and space of both media.
The name of the author will not appear in the reading and publication. Only after the ruling will the names of the winning and finalist authors be known.
A jury composed of journalists from Radio Lanzarote and La Voz de Lanzarote will choose three winning stories and seven finalists.
The decision of the contest will be made public in the second half of September.
The winner of the first prize will get a dinner for two at the Castillo de San José restaurant, while the second prize is one of the unusual experiences for two people from the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers of the Cabildo de Lanzarote. Finally, the third prize is a meal for two at the Monumento al Campesino restaurant. All prizes are for adults.
