The mayor of Arrecife, Astrid Pérez, and the Councilor for Festivities, Encarna Páez, presented this Thursday morning, January 26, 2023, the Arrecife Carnival 2023 poster, the work of Andrea Ruano Criado, who was present at the event together with the two municipal officials.

In this sense, the mayor of Arrecife, Astrid Pérez, dedicated a few words to the young artist to whom she expressed her "most sincere congratulations to the author of the Arrecife carnival poster for her incredible design. Her creativity and artistic ability are evident in every detail of the poster, and her work has contributed to making the carnival an even more special event. In addition, I would like to congratulate her for winning the contest, her work has been recognized by a demanding jury and that is a great achievement.”

For her part, the municipal Councilor for Festivities, Encarna Páez, asked the young artist who created the poster for this edition, “to continue shining with that light that you have and that produces things as beautiful as this poster, and do not allow anyone to extinguish it.” Likewise, she had words of thanks to the director of the “Pancho Lasso” School of Art, Manuel Perdomo, “for the permanent collaboration of the center he directs in hosting a new edition of the contest to designate the winner of the “Arrecife 2023 Carnival” poster, making its facilities and the talent of the students who have participated in this edition available to the municipality.”

It should be remembered that the young artist was the winner of the contest in which students from the “Graphic Design and Illustration” cycle of the “Pancho Lasso” School of Art in Arrecife participated. Andrea Ruano is a 24-year-old from Arrecife who studied a Bachelor of Arts at the “Pancho Lasso” School of Art, where she is currently a student of the Higher Degree in Illustration.

The author of the Arrecife Carnival 2023 poster, whose combination of colors and elements used and her ability to capture the essence of the event excellently convey the emotion and joy of the carnival, has explained that the creation of the work for this traditional festive event “arose from Celia Cruz herself, her songs are practically an anthem in any carnival celebration and, in fact, the message that I have tried to convey with the poster is that, as Celia herself says: life is a carnival.” In addition, Ruano has highlighted “the inclusive nature of the poster for whose design I have shown people of different ethnicities, genders and ages.”

Regarding the artistic influences that have inspired her design, Andrea Ruano has pointed to “social networks and all the talent, especially young talent, that catches my attention. I follow many children's book illustrators because it is an aspect that interests me a lot and in fact I have tried to reflect that in the poster where I use very soft lines trying to attract the attention of a younger audience as well.”

Finally, it should be remembered that the Arrecife Carnival 2023, whose program of events will be announced shortly, will take place between February 10 and 22.
