The Official State Gazette (BOE) has published this Thursday the creation of the Court Number 6 of First Instance of Arrecife. A piece of news that La Voz already advanced last June of this year and had been confirmed by the Secretary of State for Justice, Antonio Rodríguez Esquerdo, to the Senator for Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Manuel Fajardo, during a meeting that both held.

As will be recalled, Fajardo Palarea took the initiative when it became publicly known that the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC) had requested the creation of ten judicial bodies in the Canary archipelago, none of which were based in Arrecife.

The senator sent two letters, in April of this year, to the 'General Council of the Judiciary' (CGPJ) and to the territorial member of said body for the Canary Islands, Álvaro Cuesta, urging the creation of said body. Fajardo Palarea considered that the creation of this new judicial body, first on the list of priorities specified in the report on the needs of the judicial district of Arrecife, "constituted an act of equitable distribution that does not go against anyone or, much less, against other islands."

The senator made his request "relying on the detailed and well-founded" report prepared and sent to the TSJC by the Judge Dean of Arrecife, Adalberto de la Cruz Correa, after hearing the board of judges of the judicial district of the capital of Lanzarote and with the approval of the Ministry of Justice of the Government of the Canary Islands.

In the opinion of Manuel Fajardo Palarea, "this agreement comes to respond to a demand based on the particularities, double insularity and different needs that exist in the non-capital islands and that, without a doubt, will result in a better provision of the public service of justice in the two islands, whose interests I swore to defend."

Shortly after, in June of this year, the Secretary of State for Justice, Antonio Rodríguez Esquerdo, confirmed it to the Senator for Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Manuel Fajardo.

Fifteen Courts of First Instance

According to what is stated in the BOE and in accordance with the provisions of Law 38/1988, of December 28, a total of thirty-six courts have been created and constituted, including fifteen Courts of First Instance throughout the Spanish territory. In the case of Lanzarote, the implementation of the Court Number 6 of Arrecife is announced. In addition to other islands in the Canary Islands, such as Number 8 of San Cristóbal de La Laguna and Number 18 of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
