The Public Prosecutor's Office is requesting a five-year prison sentence for a woman who was arrested at Lanzarote airport with 515.21 grams of cocaine and who will be tried next Monday, June 3, by the First Section of the Provincial Court, in Arrecife.
The Prosecutor's Office maintains that the accused arrived at Lanzarote airport on January 12, 2018, on a Ryanair flight from Madrid, "carrying a plastic bag camouflaged in her crotch" containing 515.21 grams of cocaine "for subsequent sale and distribution." According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, said substance had "a purity of 79.27%" and would have reached a value of 55,042.12 euros on the illicit market.
The Prosecutor's Office considers that the facts constitute a crime against public health, in the form of substances that cause serious damage to health, and requests a sentence of five years in prison, as well as a fine of 165,126.36 euros "with the subsidiary personal responsibility of nine months of deprivation of liberty", in addition to the payment of costs.
According to the indictment, the defendant was in provisional prison for these events from January 13 to 26, 2018, and, at the time of her arrest, 125 euros were also seized. The Civil Guard reported on said arrest at the time, noting that the arrested woman was 20 years old. In addition, he stated that he had proceeded to arrest another passenger on the same flight, in this case a 59-year-old man, who was also carrying a package of cocaine in his crotch, also of just over half a kilo.
