The Canary Islands receive 6.7 million international tourists until July, 11% less than in the same period of 2019

The Canary Islands received 6,774,623 international tourists between January and July 2022, 480.13% more than in the same period last year, and 11.29% less than in the first seven months of 2019, before the pandemic.

Specifically, in the month of July, the Canary Islands were the fifth most popular destination in Spain for foreigners, accounting for 11.3% of all those who traveled to Spain, according to the "Statistics on Tourist Movements at Borders, Frontur", published this Thursday by the National Statistics Institute (INE). This represents 1,028,960 international tourists, 148.4% more than in the same month last year, and 0.26% less than in the same month of 2019.

The main countries of residence of tourists who have come to the islands in June are the United Kingdom, with 41.2% of the total, and Germany (15.4%).

The community that received the most international tourists was the Balearic Islands, followed by Catalonia, the Valencian Community, and Andalusia.

On the other hand, the Canary Islands have been the third community with the highest share of tourist spending in July, as foreign travelers spent 13.6% of the total revenue in Spain.

The first community was the Balearic Islands with 26.6% of the total, followed by Catalonia, where foreign tourists spent 21.8%.
