With 21,673 overnight stays per square kilometer, Lanzarote is the island with the most tourism in Spain in relation to its territory, according to a study published by the main yoga and meditation retreat portal bookretreats.com with data from the European Commission.
However, it should be remembered that in the Canary Islands tourism is spread throughout the year, unlike the Mediterranean islands or other parts of the continent.
The study also reveals that Lanzarote is the second in the entire European continent, since it is only surpassed by Malta, where 38,777 overnight stays per square kilometer were recorded.
Although Mallorca is the European island that receives the most tourists in absolute numbers, as it is larger than many others, it occupies the eighth position in this classification with 14,064 overnight stays per square kilometer.
Precisely Ibiza, whose data includes Formentera, occupies the third place in Europe with 17,183 overnight stays per square kilometer.
Next, Tenerife and Gran Canaria occupy the fourth and fifth place with 16,873 and 16,709 tourist nights respectively per square kilometer.
