Christmas and the December long weekend are getting closer and closer, and this year it is expected to be a record in terms of travel, and according to a recent study by the flight and hotel search engine www.jetcost.es, a 71% of Spaniards plan to travel during December.
Lanzarote is the sixth most sought-after national destination, according to jetcost, only behind Madrid, Tenerife, Barcelona, Gran Canaria and Seville.
Many of these reservations are taking place in October, with prices up to 20% cheaper than if done at the last minute, in fact, the search engine is experiencing a increase in flight searches of 26% and 34% in hotel searches in October to travel in December.
After Lanzarote, the most sought-after destinations were Malaga, Vigo, Bilbao and Fuerteventura, which occupied tenth place.
If most Spaniards (71%) have already booked a few days to travel in December, another 9% are waiting until the last minute to decide, depending mainly on the budget they have. However, almost two out of ten (20%) are not going anywhere.
Regarding the duration of the trip, 28% plan to travel for a maximum of 3 days. 36% a maximum of 5 days, 16% a week, 14% between 8 and 15 days, and only 6% between fifteen days and a month. And as far as spending is concerned, the average per person is 664 euros.
Family is the option chosen by almost half of Spaniards (48%), ahead of traveling as a couple (27%), with friends (16%) or alone (9%).
Regarding destinations, national ones seem to be the favorites for six out of ten (61%) Spaniards, who choose them ahead of international ones (33%), while 6% will combine both.
