The Spanish Union of Airline Pilots (Sepla) has announced the call for new strike days at Air Europa between June 19 and July 2 at all bases and workplaces in Spain.

Currently, the airline has a route between Lanzarote and Bilbao, with three weekly frequencies, another between Lanzarote and Madrid that has four frequencies. In addition, it has inaugurated this month two new routes between the island and Santiago de Compostela and Barcelona.

Sepla states that it has been "forced to take this difficult step due to the stubbornness and obstructionism of the Air Europa management, which continues to prefer confrontation to negotiation with workers."

In this sense, the union regrets that the company has chosen "the sterile path of confrontation and to strain relations with workers by filing a lawsuit of illegality against the union section for the previous strike call."

The pilots have expressed their concern about this company strategy, "which hinders understanding between both parties and prolongs the labor conflict unnecessarily."

"Eleven years of loss of purchasing power"

Likewise, they reject "the irresponsibility of the Air Europa management, which has not requested any meeting with the strike committee for a month." In addition, according to the pilots' union, the airline's managers have rejected the invitation to initiate a specific negotiation in the Interconfederal Mediation and Arbitration System (SIMA) with new proposals.

For Sepla, all these actions by the Air Europa management hinder an agreement that recognizes the commitment of the pilots to the future of the company and that puts an end to eleven years of loss of purchasing power without having to give up labor rights included in the IV Collective Agreement.

Sepla recalls that this strike is a unanimous mandate that the pilots granted to the union in the assembly held in February.
