The Housing Department of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Canary Housing Institute (ICAVI), has published a new call for aid for the implementation and promotion of collaborative housing (cohousing) in the Canary Islands for the period 2024-2025.

This subsidy, which has a budget of one million euros, will subsidize with up to 50,000 euros those actions that allow the development of shared accommodation in new or adapted homes, covering up to 420 euros per square meter.

The purpose of this call, which is part of the objectives set by the Canary Islands Housing Plan 2020-2025, is to increase the supply of this housing model in the archipelago, to offer an alternative to certain groups under a rental or transfer regime for a period of at least forty years.

These collaborative homes, also known as cohousing, are accommodation models that have private spaces and common facilities and services, offering a formula that facilitates access to a home from which elderly people, young people or students can mainly benefit. For its development, aid may be requested by both individuals and public entities or associations and cooperatives.

Through this subsidy, both new construction promotions and residential, intergenerational housing or similar modalities that are to be transferred for use or allocated to lease for a minimum period of forty years may be financed. The projects will be eligible as long as they include, at a minimum, the common restaurant and laundry services.

The transfer of its use or the fact that it is intended for lease for a period of at least forty years must be stated in a marginal note in the Land Registry.

Those interested may submit applications electronically at the electronic headquarters of the Public Administration of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands until October 7, 2024.
