Home sales in the Canary Islands fall three times more than nationally in May

The average decrease in Spain in the sale of houses during the month of May has been 6.4%.

The sale of homes fell in May in Canary Islands by 19.2% in annual rate, a decrease that nationally was 6.4%, according to data published this Friday by the INE.

However, the fall in the number of buyers in the Canary Islands has not yet been reflected in the price level, which according to the index of the real estate portal idealista.com was in May 10.5% higher than in the same month last year.

At the end of the fifth month of the year, 2,239 operations of this type were registered in the islands, at a rate of 120 per 100,000 inhabitants.

Of the 2,239 homes bought or sold in May in the Canary Islands, 2,158 were free, 81 protected, 456 new and 1,783 used.

In addition, the transferred properties registered in the island registries, which amounted to 6,361, that is, 340 per 100,000 inhabitants, decreased by 12% compared to the same month of 2022.

Of these, 746 were rustic properties, 3,401 urban, 351 building plots and 1,863 other urban.
