The Regulatory Council of the PDO Vinos de Lanzarote, together with the Spanish Conference of Wine Regulatory Councils (CECRV), successfully celebrated the Wine Day with designation of origin at the Casa Museo del Campesino, on May 11.
The day was attended by 35 wine designations of origin from all over the country and the central event was a collective toast accompanied by a local musical corporation.
The event served as a meeting point to bring together all those who work, promote and support the wine sector on the island, while enjoying a snack of local products paired with wines from Lanzarote wineries.
This eighth edition of Wine D.O. Day highlighted the essential role that designations of origin play in the social cohesion and socioeconomic development of rural areas in Spain.
Wine and social cohesion
The leitmotif of this edition, "Designations of origin give life to our towns. Let's celebrate what unites us!", reflected the importance of designations of origin in the identity, roots and sense of belonging in rural communities.
The day promoted a unified conversation on social networks under the hashtag #VINODOcohesionsocial, highlighting "the positive impact that wine designations of origin have in rural areas, preserving their tangible and intangible heritage and facilitating their cultural development."
The 35 participating wine designations of origin this year, including the PDO Vinos de Lanzarote, offered a program of activities that included musical performances, tastings, pairings and wine tourism experiences.
In relation to Wine D.O. Day, the president of the Regulatory Council, Jorge Rodríguez, pointed out that "the Casa Museo del Campesino has been filled with wine lovers, professionals and friends who share our passion for wine with designation of origin."
