In July, unemployment in Lanzarote fell by a discreet 0.6% compared to the previous month, which is equivalent to 53 more people working, according to the Canary Employment Observatory (OBECAN).
However, it has accumulated five consecutive months of declines in which unemployment has been reduced by more than 1,100 people to 8,233 unemployed at present.
Compared to July last year, the fall in unemployment is 15.1%. Since then, more than 1,400 people have left the unemployment lists on the island.
Unemployment falls in Yaiza, Tías and Arrecife
By municipalities, Yaiza registers the largest decrease in unemployment in the month of July with a fall of 4.5%. Compared to a year ago, the decrease is 16.5%. The total number of unemployed in the southern municipality is currently 579 people.
Next is Tías, where the fall in unemployment compared to June has been 1.8% and compared to twelve months ago it rises to 20.4%. The total number of unemployed in Tías amounts to 819 people.
For its part, Arrecife has registered a monthly decrease of 1.3% in July and 16% compared to a year ago. Currently the number of unemployed in the capital stands at 4,227 people.
Also in San Bartolomé unemployment has decreased to 938 people, although it has done so very slightly, 0.2% in July compared to the previous month, but the fall rises to 15.1% in relation to the data of last year.
It has increased in Tinajo, Teguise and Haría
On the other hand, unemployment has risen in three municipalities. Where it has done so the most has been in Tinajo, where it has increased by 5.7% and stands at 333 people. However, compared to twelve months ago, Tinajo has accumulated a decrease of 15.5%.
In Teguise the number of unemployed has also increased compared to June and has done so by 2.5%, while compared to twelve months ago it registers a decrease of 5.9%. Currently there are 1,025 unemployed in Teguise.
In Haría unemployment rose in July by 1.6%, although in the annual calculation, the figures for the northern municipality are positive and equivalent to a decrease of 13.3% compared to July last year. The total number of unemployed in Haría is 312 citizens.
