The Yaiza City Council concluded this Friday the administrative process of stabilizing 160 non-fixed indefinite labor workers. A process that began in January 2022, in which the majority of employees with more than 20 years of service, now become permanent, after passing the call for the selective process by merit assessment contest. Thus, the Institution presided over by Óscar Noda complies with the State's guidelines that oblige public administrations to regularize the situation of their personnel.
For the Yaiza City Council, the second Institution of Lanzarote to stabilize the situation of its workers after Tías, it means the labor consolidation for 80% of its staff. The mayor Óscar Noda, has presided over the Assembly in the Benito Pérez Armas House of Culture, where the workers have been informed about the 'novation' of their contracts, which means only the change of their legal link from temporary or non-fixed indefinite labor personnel to permanent labor personnel, but in no case the modification of their working conditions.
The municipal staff is divided into up to 55 job categories, including architect, construction foreman, administrative assistant, pedagogue, social graduate, engineer, technical assistant, driver, monitor, carpentry foreman, maintenance foreman, cleaning and maintenance worker.
The mayor pointed out that "we are pleased to successfully complete this process in which we have gone hand in hand with the Works Council, which respects the rights of workers, which gives tranquility to everyone and their families and that allows us to continue providing with guarantees the services of municipal competence that our neighbors demand and deserve, so on behalf of the entire Corporation, I give my most sincere congratulations to the staff and I thank the involvement of the administrative staff and the unions to bring to a successful conclusion this process that had from the beginning with the conviction and political will of the government group that I preside over".
For his part, the president of the Works Council, Fernando Melián, also thanked "all the agents involved, especially the colleagues for their effort and trust in us in this process that has not been easy, nor is it easy for any administration", and to thank, of course, the government group and the mayor, Óscar Noda, for his "exquisite treatment and willingness to carry out this regularization that we can celebrate today".
The union representation also told the Assembly that "we must be proud because what has been achieved in Yaiza with the support of the workers and the municipal government is a historical demand in the Canary Islands to end temporary employment, that many administrations continue working on the regularization, and Yaiza is an example that can be achieved".
