UGT Canarias has promoted the first voluntary reduction of the working day to 35 hours in the commercial sector, in this case with the Chacón Group of Lanzarote.
This is a "pioneering agreement", which has been reached with one of the most important food companies in Lanzarote, which has a workforce of 130 employees, the union celebrated this Thursday in a statement.
Employees will be able to benefit from this new working hours, without cutting their salaries, and it will be carried out progressively, with the aim of reaching the entire workforce in 2025.
The measure is part of a national debate on the reduction of working hours.
However, despite the discrepancies recognized by the employers, Grupo Chacón has taken "a step forward" assuming this process as part of its company philosophy, the note highlights.
With this reduction in working hours, UGT Canarias seeks to continue advancing in the improvement of working conditions in the archipelago, consolidating "a milestone" for the rights of workers in the commercial sector.
