Total traffic in the Port of Arrecife during 2005 reached 1,727,633 tons, 3.4% more than the previous year, according to the Port Authority of Las Palmas.
Lanzarote continues to be the second favorite destination for cruise passengers visiting the archipelago, since of the 269,000 passengers who arrived at the Port of Arrecife, 1.36% more than in 2004, 214,191 were cruise passengers and the rest were inter-island passengers.
The ships that docked at the port facilities of Arrecife were 1,484, which represents an increase of 0.27%, most of them were merchant ships and only 212 fishing vessels, 17.1% less than in 2004.
The most significant growth was the unloading of frozen fish with 44.6% and the traffic of supplies, with 36,966 tons of water and fuel supplied, which represents an increase of 30%. On the contrary, the unloading of fresh fish handled decreased by 8.6%.
The balance of container traffic was also in double digits, with growth reaching 27% throughout the year.
