The Ombudsman, Soledad Becerril, has addressed the State Aviation Safety Agency (AESA), which reports to the Ministry of Development, to inform them that she will initiate an ex officio action due to the incidents that occurred on several Ryanair flights and that, according to her, "affect air safety regulations and the rights of civil aviation passengers."
In her writing, the Ombudsman states that the aforementioned airline "has suffered 1,201 incidents in the first six months of the year, and that they have continued to occur in July and this month." The company, on the other hand, alleges discriminatory treatment and assures that the rest of the airlines have a similar number of incidents and complaints.
In this sense, the Ombudsman has also requested that the veracity of the complaints about other airlines alluded to by Ryanair be verified.
The Ministry of Development agreed in July to carry out an informative study and impose sanctions if bad practices are found. Soledad Becerril has asked Fomento to know the result of that study, the actions carried out or planned and if, in case of malpractice, it will transfer the information to the Government of Ireland, responsible for Ryanair's license.
In addition, the Ombudsman regrets that "the fines totaling 2.3 million euros imposed on Ryanair since 2007 have not served to modify the airline's actions."
