The 78 hotels in Lanzarote accommodated 3% fewer travelers than last year, according to the Lanzarote Data Center based on figures from the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (ISTAC).
If last year 177,964 tourists chose to stay in a hotel in Lanzarote in April, this year there have been 173,473.
However, with more than one million overnight stays, Lanzarote's hotel establishments earned 5% more in April than last year, exceeding 57 million euros.
The increase in income despite the decrease in travelers was due to the fact that the average rate in the island's hotels grew by 3% to exceed 125 euros. The average stay also increased, from 7.07 days last year to 7.45 last April.
Meanwhile, employment in Lanzarote's hotels has increased by 9% in the last year, from 8,618 workers in April last year to 9,541 employees last month.
