Puerto del Carmen opens to the gay tourism market. Starting in October, several tourist complexes exclusively for this market will begin to operate, of which the City Council highlights its "high purchasing power."
The mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, has advanced this news during the presentation of the new edition of the Lanzarote Pride Festival. The mayor has revealed that in recent weeks he has had a meeting with "an important businessman from Europe", who has chosen Lanzarote to work in this segment of the tourism market, and who is also finalizing several investments and agreements in the Puerto del Carmen area.
For the first mayor of Tías, this commitment of this group to Puerto del Carmen "is a clear example of the great future that awaits the largest tourist area of Lanzarote", which in 2015 will be 50 years since the start of construction of the first hotel in Lanzarote. According to the City Council, the arrival of gay tourism to the island is accompanied by the programming of several direct and special flights, also operated by this same European group.

Puerto del Carmen, Gay Friendly in Lanzarote
The mayor has assured that the City Council has promoted "many actions" to make Puerto del Carmen an "ideal destination for this segment." Precisely, between this Thursday and Saturday, the town will host the new edition of the Lanzarote Pride Festival.
"Tías and Lanzarote are a tolerant society and friends of LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) people. This weekend I invite you to join these activities open to all, tourists and residents," said the mayor.
During the press conference, in which the presence of the deputy mayor, Jerónimo Robayna, had been announced, but he finally did not attend, the mayor presented the program and the poster of the Lanzarote Pride Festival. This same Thursday, at 9:00 p.m., a gala of Mr. Gay Bahía and Mr. Gay Puerto del Carmen will be held, in the Bahía Chill disco terrace, where seven boys will compete.
Friday will be the Pride gala, starting at 9:00 p.m., and Saturday, the Pride parade in Puerto del Carmen, starting at 7:30 p.m. Another of the activities planned by the promoters of the Lanzarote Pride Festival, present at the press conference together with the mayor of Tías and the municipal technician of the area, is the great high heels race. The activities are channeled through the Department of Commerce of the City Council of Tías, under the direction of the deputy mayor and councilor Jerónimo Robayna.
