The Teguise City Council has ceded a municipal plot to the Federation of Agricultural and Fisheries Associations (FASAT) to plant alfalfa. This initiative has been in process for more than a year, and since it began, different irrigation and water tank installation works have been carried out, among others.
The mayoress of Teguise, Olivia Duque, has thanked the Cabildo of Lanzarote for its financial contribution and its participation in this project and highlights that "Teguise is an example of associationism and unity and we will continue to support this type of initiative. The idea is to see how they work in order to continue increasing the cultivated area in the future."
For his part, the president of FASAT, Omar Viña, appreciates the City Council's commitment to continue betting on the agricultural sector, since with this method the quality of our products will be improved." Likewise, Viñas explains that "the cultivation of this product leads to a decrease in the forage costs of farmers, creating their own and higher quality protection."
Within the Federation of Agricultural and Fisheries Associations (FASAT) is the ASD Guanapay, which houses a large number of farmers from all over the island of Lanzarote. Both associations are pioneers in carrying out this type of island protection projects.
