Comisiones Obreras has announced a new strike call in regular intercity passenger transport in Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria due to the lack of agreement with the employers.

In the case of Lanzarote, 24-hour stoppages are scheduled between October 6, 7 and 8 from the early hours of the first day until the end of October 8. After that, mobilizations will continue on the following days with indefinite intermittent stoppages between 06:00 and 08:00 hours and between 14:00 and 16:00 hours.

The union has warned that the stoppages will not cease until the conflict between the employers is resolved, which, they have assured, has been blocked since March, after four meetings.

The main demands

Firstly, this strike rejects the transport employers' intentions to establish a framework agreement, instead of negotiating a sectoral collective agreement. The union has indicated that this would "entail a fragmentation of rights".

At the same time, Comisiones Obreras has demanded that it be guaranteed that the subrogated personnel also enter into the collective agreement, in order to ensure "stability" and working conditions in cases of contracts or concessions.

In this line, it seeks to ensure that the validity of the agreed collective agreement is maintained until at least 2032 to give "stability" and "legal certainty" to the regulations.

Fourthly, the union asks that the working day be reduced to 37.5 hours per week, due to the possible modification of the Workers' Statute and following the principles of "occupational health" and family "reconciliation".

To which it has added the demand for a unified salary table to guarantee "the convergence of economic conditions" and avoid "unequal remuneration" between islands.

Sixthly, it has asked that legal novelties regarding permits and licenses be incorporated into the collective agreement.

Finally, it requests that the homogenization of working conditions at the provincial level be reinforced so that all workers in the sector in the province have "the same salary and working conditions".
