The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty of the Government of the Canary Islands has published this Monday the call for subsidies for investments in modernization and/or improvement of farms in the field of agriculture for the period of 2024.
The funds are part of the new Strategic Plan of the Common Agricultural Policy (PEPAC), which replaces the Rural Development Program (RDP). The Canary Islands will have 7.1 million euros this year, and a total public expenditure of 25 million euros is expected until 2028, which may be increased if necessary.
The actions subject to subsidy are those investments aimed at improving the economic results of agricultural farms, modernizing them or restructuring them in terms of size or productive orientation.
This line of aid experiences a change with respect to the previous program with the aim of benefiting a greater number of farmers and ranchers, who currently opt for a maximum annual aid of 250,000 euros. With the publication of these bases, the aim is to simplify and make transparent the selection procedures through open calls.
The most outstanding novelty of this new program is that, with a single call, the deadlines for the presentation of applications to benefit from these funds during the years 2024, 2025, 2026 and 2027 are determined, offering potential applicants the opportunity to know in advance the start dates of the periods to apply for subsidies, without having to wait for the annual publications of the calls, as was the case in the RDP.
The Councilor of the Area, Narvay Quintero, pointed out that these funds allow to undertake actions such as the purchase of machinery, the installation of greenhouses, the production of self-consumption electrical energy, the implementation of precision agriculture or digitalization, among other actions.
Those interested in benefiting from these funds have until June 23, 2024 to submit their application and the required documentation through the electronic headquarters of the regional Executive.
For the year 2024, applications must be submitted within one month after the publication of the extract of the open call in the BOC. Meanwhile, for the years 2025, 2026, 2027 and 2028, these will be formalized during the month of October of the year prior to the corresponding year of selection.
These subsidies are co-financed by the European Union, by the Autonomous Community and by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. The EU funds will be paid directly to the beneficiaries through the Paying Agency for European Agricultural Funds.
