Guacimeta airport registered a new increase of 7.1% in passengers in May

Guacimeta Airport received a total of 524,194 travelers last May. This figure represents an increase of 7.1% compared to the same month of 2015. This is reflected in the data provided by Aena on traffic at Canary Island airports during the past month, which shows that the 8 airports on the islands registered almost 3 million passengers, 2,993,917 specifically, which represents an increase of 14.4%. 

Of the total commercial passengers (2,960,903), 1,831,265 correspond to international traffic, which reflects an increase of 14.3%. Of these, 1,733,299 were travelers from the European Union and 97,966 from countries that do not belong to the EU. As for passengers on domestic flights, these amounted to 1,129,638, also reflecting an increase of 14.3% compared to May 2015.

The airports with the highest passenger traffic in the archipelago were Gran Canaria and Tenerife South, with 834,241 (18.6% more) and 721,338 (14.1% more) respectively, occupying the sixth and eighth positions in the Aena network. Next is the Lanzarote airport and in fourth place is Fuerteventura, with 428,352 (11.6% more). The list is completed, in order, by Tenerife North, with 377,876 passengers (+20.1%), La Palma, with 92,136 (+17.8%), El Hierro, 12,732 (+9.4%) and La Gomera, with 3,048 passengers (+0.8%).

On the other hand, the Canary Islands airports registered 27,807 operations, 10.9% more than in May 2015. Of the total commercial operations, which were 26,261, 11,347 were international (12.5% more) and 14,914 national (10.3% more). Cargo traffic was 3,292 tons transported, 5% more than in the same period of 2015.

 

12.6% more so far this year


As for the accumulated traffic so far this year, the number of passengers who have passed through the Canary Islands airports between January and May 2016 amounted to 16,390,997, 12.6% more than in the same period last year, of which 11,060,156 correspond to international flights, 11.4% more, and 5,091,529 to national flights, 14.5% more.

The operations registered in this period were 146,307, 9.2% more than in the first five months of 2015, and the traffic of goods transported amounted to 15,366 tons (2.4% more).
