Bankia customers who previously had an office in the town of Guatiza, can now request to be transferred to the central office in La Villa de Teguise. In this way, Bankia responds favorably to the new request from the mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, given the concern of the citizens of Guatiza about being forced to travel outside the municipality to carry out banking transactions after the closure of the Guatiza office.
In this sense, Oswaldo Betancort has expressed his satisfaction with Bankia's response to the latest demands made to the financial institution, although he stated that "we will continue fighting to maintain Bankia's services in the municipality, to avoid the financial exclusion of the inhabitants of Teguise from the financial system, just as we prevented it from happening in La Graciosa."
"Although we are satisfied with Bankia's response to our firm request to maintain the much-needed office in La Graciosa and the ATM in Guatiza, as well as the cancellation of inadmissible commissions to the City Council and private users for municipal operations, we will continue to demand services that facilitate user transactions," added the mayor.
Oswaldo Betancort recalls that in the face of the controversial announcement of the closure of the branch on the island of La Graciosa, "we did not throw in the towel, and we exerted the pressure we felt was necessary at that time to demand a service that was essential for citizens, and also for visitors to the island of La Graciosa." "Bankia's own management acknowledged that the closure announcement had been a mistake and that is why they had rectified it," concludes Betancort.
100 million euros for tourism modernization in the islands
Likewise, the mayor of Teguise wants to echo the agreement ratified yesterday between the Government of the Canary Islands and the financial institution, whereby Bankia allocates 100 million euros for tourism modernization in the islands, credit that many entrepreneurs can benefit from to carry out projects that allow progress in the economic diversification of the Canary Islands.
The agreement, through which new lines of financing are opened to business projects of self-employed workers and small and medium-sized companies, arises as a result of the meeting between the president of the regional government, Paulino Rivero, and the mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, on September 18 in Madrid, where the Canary Islands asked the banks to activate credit lines for tourism renovation and, in exchange, they could channel funds from the European Investment Bank (EIB).
In this sense, Oswaldo Betancort, celebrates that "the agreement signed with Bankia establishes a joint action in the financing of projects for the modernization and improvement of the accommodation facilities of the islands, as well as the complementary offer and tourist spaces, and that it does so without limiting companies by their size or legal form." "I believe that a new opportunity is opening up for companies in Lanzarote, and of course, in our municipality, that develop their activity in tourist areas."
