The Tías City Council has closed six Alternating Training with Employment Programs (PFAE), through which 120 unemployed people from the municipality were trained in different areas during the last eleven months.

The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, presided over the closing ceremony of these programs, which were financed by the Canarian Employment Service (SCE) of the Government of the Canary Islands. Each of the six PFAEs were subsidized with 321,385.11 euros, which amounts to a total investment of 1,928,310.66 euros.

Cruz Saavedra was accompanied by Jorge Guevara, technician of the SCE, Ascensión Toledo, Minister of Employment of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Carmen Gloria Rodríguez, Councilor for Employment of the City Council, and her government group. They also had the presence of the Councilor for Employment of San Bartolomé, Alma González, and the Councilors for Employment and Social Services of Yaiza, Rubén Arca and Karina Centeno.

Building Future III, Tías Web III, Safe Beaches III, For a Cleaner Town II, Tías in Green and Dynamize Tías are the names of the PFAEs executed in 2023, which contributed both to consolidate the study and practice of different skills and to the improvement of the services and infrastructures of the municipality.

During the closing ceremony, a summary video was shown that offered testimonies from the student-workers and their progress after eleven months of training and obtaining their corresponding professional certificate. Likewise, several screens and exhibition tables showed the most significant aspects of the programs.

In addition to the congratulations and thanks to the management, teaching, administrative and student-worker teams, the words dedicated to the head of the Human Resources area of the Tías City Council and the directors of the three PFAEs that culminate their journey were especially emotional: For a cleaner town II, the Web of Tías III and Building Future III.

“On behalf of the corporation and the government group, we congratulate you and thank you for the work done. We are sure that you have known how to take advantage of this training and employment opportunity,” declared the mayor, who announced that the City Council continues working on new PFAEs.

Cruz Saavedra added that “we have also had the collaboration of companies, to whom we thank for their involvement and encourage them to hire as many workers as possible, because our objective is also, to the extent of our possibilities, to help them to join the labor market.”
