Electricity demand grew in Lanzarote by 1.7% in 2017, placing it below the regional average for the Canary Islands, which rose to 2.1%. La Gomera, with 5%, and Fuerteventura, with 4.9%, recorded the most pronounced increases in electricity demand in the Canary Islands, while Tenerife reached 2.2%. In addition to Lanzarote, La Palma (1.8%) and Gran Canaria (1.6%) were also below the regional average. Demand only decreased in El Hierro, with a drop of 0.9%.
Throughout 2017, the Punta Grande power plant increased its energy production by 3.6% compared to the previous year, generating most of the 869.1 GWh [gigawatt hours] of electricity demanded by the island during the year.
As of December 31, 2017, the total installed power in Punta Grande reached a total of 231.01 MW [megawatts].
