In 1987, César Manrique captured his art on a limited series of units of the first generation SEAT Ibiza. Baptized with the artist's surname, SEAT Ibiza ? Manrique ? del Sol, the Spanish brand's model was shown at the Barcelona Motor Show of the same year, highlighting its innovative, original design full of the colorfulness so characteristic of the artist's painting.
In 2015, Cicar/Grupo Cabrera Medina launched a special edition of the Ibiza model of that year with the incorporation of the painter's original design. And now, in 2019, to commemorate the centenary of the artist's birth, Cicar/Grupo Cabrera Medina is re-releasing its initiative with the approval of the César Manrique Foundation.
The presentation took place at the central facilities of the business group and was attended by Pedro and Mamerto Cabrera, from Cicar/Grupo Cabrera Medina ? Orvecame, and José Juan Ramírez, president of the César Manrique Foundation. In order to carry out the initiative, César Manrique's original drawing was adapted to the new version of the Ibiza. This reaffirms the company's link with César Manrique, as the group's logo is also a design by the artist.
SEAT Ibiza -Manrique- del Sol, a version with history
Cicar/Grupo Cabrera Medina - Orvecame re-releases an initiative led by SEAT Spain in 1987, which consisted of commissioning César Manrique to paint a limited series of the SEAT Ibiza of that year. One of the consequences of that initiative was that, in September 1987, Grupo Zeta presented a SEAT Ibiza painted by the artist to the 9 most outstanding personalities in as many areas of the country's social and economic life, as chosen by the readers of the group's publications.
The award winners included the writer Manuel Vázquez Montalbán, the ophthalmologist Joaquín Barraquer, the musician Miguel Ríos, the journalist Jesús Hermida, the tennis player Emilio Sánchez Vicario and Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart, Duchess of Alba. Likewise, César Manrique himself was presented with one of the vehicles painted by him, which after being restored has been exhibited since 2013 in the Casa Museo César Manrique in Haría.
