The president of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Astrid Pérez, participated this Saturday in the religious events in honor of the Santísimo Cristo de La Laguna as representative of His Majesty the King, Felipe VI. The president stated that she felt "honored to hold this representation in the City of the Adelantados, also being the third woman and the first from Lanzarote, in the history of this tradition that dates back to 1906."
In the Cathedral of San Cristóbal de La Laguna, the military received with honors and paraded before the president of the Chamber, to give way to the delivery, by Mr. Esclavo Mayor, Francisco J. Doblas, of the Silver Baton. The solemn act gave way to the celebration of the Eucharist of Christ, officiated by the Bishop of Tenerife, Bernardo Álvarez, after which the procession of the image followed the usual route to its Sanctuary.
This September 14, the great day of the Cristo lagunero, was attended by a large representation of civil, military and consular authorities, as well as deputies from the different parliamentary groups, in addition to the second vice president of the Chamber, Gustavo Matos.
