The spokesperson for the Government of the Canary Islands, Alfonso Cabello, stated this Monday that the autonomous Executive is at the disposal of the administrations of Lanzarote to offer the "maximum collaboration" after the floods caused by the intense rains this Saturday on the island.
In the press conference after the Governing Council, Cabello also celebrated that there has been a "reasonably good response" from the institutions to this situation that overwhelmed the initial forecasts.
"We believe that now it is up to the island and municipal authorities to restore normality and address the incidents, then it is time to assess the damage caused," remarked the spokesperson for the autonomous Executive, who assured that the Government was in "permanent contact" with the island authorities throughout the weekend.
Cabello explained that the Special Plan for Civil Protection and Emergency Attention due to flood risk in the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands has been in place since Friday, which was extended to the easternmost islands since Saturday.
In addition, he detailed that the Emergency and Security Coordination Center received the yellow alert from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) at 2:05 PM on Saturday for accumulated rainfall of up to 20 millimeters (liters per square meter) in one hour, but it did not arrive until it was seen that the rains were starting to fall because that intensity was not expected.
