The Council of Ministers has approved this Wednesday, after deliberation of the proposal submitted by the President of the Government, the declaration of official mourning throughout the country for those who died because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The mourning is established from 00:00 hours on Wednesday, May 27, 2020, until 00:00 hours on Saturday, June 6. During this period of ten days of official mourning, the longest in Spanish democratic history, the national flag will fly at half-mast on the outside, and with a black ribbon on the flagpole on the inside, in all public buildings and Navy ships, as well as in our representations and missions abroad.

For this reason, this Wednesday, at 11 a.m. Canary time, a minute of silence will be observed in memory of the deceased, which will be general and extendable to the entire country. The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will observe the minute of silence at the Moncloa Complex. All public and private bodies and institutions in Spain are invited to join this tribute, both in the national territory and abroad, and especially all citizens from the place where they are as an act of deep respect, stopping activity in the country during that minute.

This invitation also extends to all social, cultural and sporting events that take place during this period and also to those events that take place for the first time even after the official mourning has ended. "Ultimately, it is about calling on the entire country to remain united and dedicate a solemn, serene and sincere moment to all the people who died from this pandemic and to forever keep in their memory the memory and respect of all," the Government concludes.
