Moroccan authorities have arrested 321 irregular migrants of sub-Saharan origin in recent days in several attempts to reach the Canary Islands.

According to local authorities through the official MAP agency, 180 migrants were arrested between Tuesday and Wednesday as they were preparing to leave for the Canary Islands from the coasts of El Aaiún, in Western Sahara.

In addition, Moroccan forces arrested 17 migrants in Tarfaya (in the extreme south of Morocco) on Tuesday and another 34 this Wednesday in the same city.

In the last operation, the authorities seized an inflatable boat, an engine and seven 25-liter drums of gasoline each.

The note emphasizes that the security forces have recently "intensified" control over irregular emigration attempts in the El Aaiún and Saguia el Hamra region, which allowed the arrest of many migrants and the confiscation of boats.
