The National Geographic Institute (IGN) has located since last midnight more than 60 earthquakes in La Palma, the largest of which was recorded at 06.19 this Wednesday, reaching 4.6 in the municipality of Mazo, of intensity IV-V, and at a depth of 38 kilometers. Thus, the 'seismic swarm' remains fully active south of Cumbre Vieja, where earthquakes at depths greater than 20 kilometers had a lower frequency on Tuesday, although the magnitude remains high, as shown by the one recorded in the early afternoon on Tuesday, at a depth of 33 kilometers, in Mazo, of magnitude 4.8, which was felt in Tenerife, El Hierro and La Gomera.
The latest report from the Department of National Security states that in the last 24 hours the evolution of the volcano is marked by the lava that continues to flow over the existing lava flows, increasing their height and filling the islands between them, with the affected area standing at 879.69 hectares.
Currently the deformation of the terrain at the station closest to the cone showed an increase of up to 10 centimeters.
As for the current meteorological conditions, they are favorable for airport operations, although thermal inversion and weak winds on the western slope could lead to a temporarily unfavorable scenario for air quality.
