The Port Authority of Las Palmas has published the statistics for the month of June and closes the first semester of the year with 1,187,066 cruise passengers in the province, almost 25% more than in the same period of 2024.
According to the president of the public entity, Beatriz Calzada. “During this first semester, the cruises that have stopped at our ports have made a total of 437 calls, 181 in Gran Canaria, with more than 550,000 passengers; 144 in Lanzarote, with 351,000 cruise passengers; and 112 in Fuerteventura, with 288,000.”
In the port of Arrecife the growth is equivalent to 20.5% in the first semester, since it has gone from 278,000 last year to 351,000 in the current year.
“This passage already enjoys the benefits of the new terminals in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, and at the end of the year they will also do so on the island of Gran Canaria, where our concessionaire Global Ports is building the largest cruise terminal in Europe,” he added.
Calzada recalled that the forecasts point to an increase of 18% in the number of calls and passengers for this year, exceeding two million cruise passengers in the province of Las Palmas.
Likewise, for this 2025 an increase in cruise passengers from the United States and Canada is observed, and the incorporation of the ports of Las Palmas as a stopover on repositioning trips that cover the Caribbean-Mediterranean route and vice versa.
“In 2023, the cruise industry generated almost 49,000 jobs and generates wealth and opportunities in a transversal way, since a wide range of companies and professionals benefit, such as the food sector, tourist guides or travel agencies, among others,” Calzada explained.
Ports of Las Palmas exceeds Bilbao in tons
The statistics of Puertos del Estado position the Port Authority of Las Palmas leading the fourth position in terms of tons, with a growth of 12.1%, placing it above the Port Authority of Bilbao, which belongs to Group 1 and which has suffered a drop of -14.7% in the first six months of the year.
In this way, Las Palmas is placed in the ranking of the first four Authorities Portuaries together with Valencia, Algeciras and Barcelona, these three belonging to Group 1. “Again, these data show that we deserve to move up a level because month after month our statistics support us,” said President Beatriz Calzada.
The statistics published by the Port Authority reflect an increase in its total traffic to reach 17,757,871 tons in the accumulated annual of 2025, which represents an increase of +12.05% compared to last year, that is, 1,909,321 tons more than in 2024.
The growth registered for the Port of Las Palmas is +12.43%, with 15,529,049 tons in the month of June; the Port of Arrecife increases its total traffic by +10.88%, with 982,815 tons; the Port of Puerto del Rosario also shows positive figures, with an increase of +18.20% and 827,817 tons; the Port of Arinaga increases by +8.45%, with 132,617 tons; the Port of Salinetas decreases its total traffic by -12.63% with 285,573 tons.
