Uncomfortable match on the eighth day of the Division of Honor Gold between CB Zonzamas CICAR Lanzarote and Errece Almassora Balonmano, where the 'batatero' team was superior to its rival, but did not have the capacity to close the match in time, leaving the Castellón team with chances of a comeback practically until the end.
The locals would be in charge of opening the scoring, although with difficulties. The excessive permissiveness of the referees, yes, of different measure in each of the areas, left CB Zonzamas CICAR Lanzarote playing in numerical inferiority during a large part of the first ten minutes of the match. Errece Almassora took advantage then to get ahead on the scoreboard as early as the third minute, although Patro Barambio's team managed to conclude with tie scores in the periods in which they had one less player.
Gleinys Reyes found the rival net after cutting a pass and finishing on the counterattack, returning the tables to the scoreboard. Minutes later it would be Ingrid Roger, with a spectacular individual play in which she got rid of up to four defenders, who would allow her to continue fighting despite being outnumbered.
In equal conditions, there were moments of exchange of blows in which the Castellón team benefited, completing the first ten minutes with an electronic score of 4-5.
Important work in goal with the interventions of Susi Sánchez preventing the visiting goal and causing the counterattack, also nullifying a penalty. Efforts that were rewarded with the youngest of the Rogers, who would get the tie to then connect with Lucía Chacón, with the pivot managing to come back on the scoreboard (6-5).
The great 'batatera' defense left an Errece Almassora without ideas that was sinning with several inaccuracies and losses of the ball, although these recoveries were not taken advantage of by a CB Zonzamas CICAR Lanzarote that, despite controlling the match, did not find the way to increase the advantage on the scoreboard.
With the Castellón team desperate, unable to break the 6:0 'rojinegra' (red and black), they began to look for options with the outside launch of the Argentine Zoe Turnes, taking a good income until Brenda Roger, three times in a row, achieved the best 'rojinegra' streak until then with a 10-7 completed the first quarter of an hour.
Then came the precipitations of the locals and many failures in the two areas. Errece Almassora put a new tie at 12, just five minutes from the end of the first half. The entry of María de León gave some more clarity in attack, giving the necessary pause and calm. It was precisely a goal from the captain with which the control of the scoreboard (13-12) and of the match was resumed, reaching the break with a result of 15-13.
In the second part, the solid 'batatero' defensive block was maintained, preventing the circulation of the ball of Errece Almassora and with Berenice Frelier and Lucía Chacón containing the connection with the Castellón pivot.
That recovery of key balls served to have a income of up to five goals in favor, although a fast Almassora on the counterattack managed to reduce the score to 19-16 during the first ten minutes of the new time. Again, it was not possible to close the match, and things could be really difficult for CB Zonzamas CICAR Lanzarote.
To the arbitral decisions that left much to be desired, were added some inaccuracies with the ball that continued to give oxygen to some visitors who, despite being annulled in attack, continued fighting to find the net of the local goal.
Errece Almassora remained three minutes without finding the goal. The problem was that, when Chacón found the door again in the fortieth minute of the match (20-16), the locals would not move their goal box again until the fiftieth minute, from the hand of the debutant Luana Albán, putting the 21-19.
The final stretch of the match came with a lot of tension and advantages by the minimum. Reyes managed to assist so that Chacón scored after a struggle and grab from behind that the arbitral couple understood that it did not deserve any infraction. The 25-22 at least gave margin to the 'batateras' in the final three minutes.
With the clock against them, the visitors got in a hurry, with many urgent mistakes. This time yes, CB Zonzamas CICAR Lanzarote knew how to take advantage of it, especially in defense from where the 'rojinegras' managed to close the match with a 28-24.
The 'batatero' team recovers the path of triumph, being better than the opponent, but being infected by the rhythm of play of this, without the ability to give the necessary pause to resolve the score in the best possible way. Even so, the great potential and level of CB Zonzamas CICAR Lanzarote promises to give many more joys in this league competition. The next day will be away against a tough Soliss BM Pozuelo de Calatrava.
